Annual Council of Fashion Designers of America Awards ..

Rather than focus this blog on the Fashion Icon Award winner on the night, Rihanna, I thought for once I would give Heidi Klum some brownie points!

Normally, I tend to pan her looks as either cheap looking, age inappropriate or just not fashionable but I have to say I LOVED the beautiful, peach coloured Donna Karan dress on her!

Ok, it’s not the fashion statement of the year BUT any of you heading off on a Summer holiday …. this would be a perfect look for an evening out for dinner and a few drinks.  It looks effortlessly chic, extremely comfortable and if you are bloated/swollen from the heat you don’t need to worry as this style hides it all!  A similar dress can be easily purchased on the High Street in fact I picked one up myself a week ago in House of Fraser in Belfast for about £80.

Like Heidi, keep your accessories to a minimum and hair loose.  Let the floating fabric and colour do all the talking!

I am so copying this look for my week’s holiday in Ibiza this Summer.

A Roar at Face of NI 2013!!

Face of NI 2013 Finalist, Sarah Hughes. Photo kindly supplied by Image 31 Photography.

Face of NI 2013 Finalist, Sarah Hughes came to Belle Dress Hire looking for a dress that would stand out on the catwalk for the evening wear round of the competition which took place at the Canal Court Hotel in Newry last month and I believe she achieved that in this amazing leopard print dress.

This sensational style comes from Paris and is ultimately set off by a red satin trim across the bust and on the lining of the dress.  The small diamante detail at the waist just adds a little extra glamour!  This dress is extremely well shaped so it hugs the figure in all the right places.

Just a few things to remember when wearing animal print of any kind  especially as evening wear ..

1) Do not clash with other animal prints, patterns or clashing colours.

2) Keep accessories to a minimum.  It should be all about the dress!

3) Go for good quality fabric.

Leopard print is sometimes associated with being a little tacky buy hey if it’s good enough for Rihanna, Jessica Alba and Jennifer Lopez then it’s bloody well good enough for us!!

Finally, and most importantly, wear leopard print with confidence, hold your head high and give a roar if you want to!!!

Ear Cuffs ….. the latest trend!

When I first heard the term “ear cuffs”, I immediately thought this was a passing punk trend until I heard cuffs have been sported recently by celebs such as actress Diane Kruger to  “goodie two shoes” Emma Watson to “bad girl” Rihanna. This trend which has been massively hitting the red carpet, is temporary which means you don’t have to commit to permanent ear piercing all over your ears.  The cuff simply clasps onto the rim of your ear and so can be removed at any time.

As I said, I thought this trend wouldn’t be suitable for a chic look, but I was so wrong! In fact, I think this would be an amazing look to try with an evening dress as it’s something a little bit different.

Ear Cuffs can be a simple metal design OR you can go all out with OTT diamante detail. So if you are looking for an accessory which will make you stand out from the crowd at an upcoming wedding, black tie or formal event, why not consider an ear cuff especially if you are wearing your hair up!

A little gem ….

I read about a website lately, in a magazine and thought I would check it out.

I LOVE hats, always have done and I thought this site’s embellished baseball caps were really cool.  There’s no doubt that you could try and copy these looks yourself but by the time you buy fabric, jewels etc it may not be worthwhile moneywise as these caps start from just £15!!!

The likes of Rihanna and some other celebs such as Gwen Stefani have rocked baseball caps recently with a casual denim look and I think it looks great!

Rihanna hits River Island!

Ri Ri visited the London Oxford Street store this week to promote and launch her new collection with the high street retailer.

Leather baseball caps, maxi dresses, crop tops and multi-wash jeans seem to be the items that Rihanna has decided to focus on with this new collection.

Dare I say it ………………..  I have to be honest, these clothes look a tad trashy!  I really don’t see anything new or innovative in these designs.  I think we’ve all got similar items already in our wardrobe at home.  Even glamorizing the collection with an official professional photo shoot hasn’t worked any miracles:-

Even if Ri Ri’s collection actually comes to a Northern Ireland River Island store, I will not be joining the queues to buy I’m afraid.
