Night out Essentials!

Every woman should have these next few items in their drawer at home because you will use them countless times and may even be able to come to the rescue of a friend in need, if a fashion disaster strikes on a night out.

First item is Body Tape. Honestly, this product is super handy for so many things! Have a strapless top that gapes a little at the sides? ….. a strip of double sided body tape will hold it in place all night. Another fantastic use is for shirts or blouses that gape at the buttons. Being bigger busted, I always find that I can see through to my bra in between my shirt buttons despite it fitting perfectly everywhere else! Put a small piece of body tape on the two layers of fabric, stick together and voila no more gaps!! I’ve tried this over and over again and the tape always sticks even though it’s technically against two layers of cloth and not skin, it still works a treat. Also, for a temporary fix on a hemline that unravels, the tape again will hold fast at least for the duration of a night out. The body tape is especially good for backless tops and dresses, it just keeps things in place particularly because your back is always moving and backless tops do have a tendency to fall off if not secured in place and the tape will do that. I have purchased body tape off the Internet before but found the stickiness just not good enough, to be honest I would personally recommend the Eylure Body Tape – Pre Cut Adhesive Strips. These can be bought in various shops including Boots and Superdrug. Priced generally under £5 this is worth the small investment as you never know when you or a friend will need this!

Another brilliant product to have in your arsenal is a pair of silicone petals, aka nipple covers! Not only do these come in really handy for evening dresses and slinky tops for going out, they are especially fantastic for going on holiday! Sometimes when it’s especially warm abroad or if you’ve gotten too much sun, the thought of having to wear a bra under a strappy vest top seems awful. These petals will ensure your modesty is intact and that you will feel completely comfortable going without a bra, even under the skimpiest of tops! I bought these petals in Primark for just £2 and I have used them at least twenty five times. The glue/sticky side is still going strong so certainly well worth the money and let’s be honest even if they don’t last much longer, it won’t break the bank to replace them. I simply wear the petals and then when I’m done using them, I put the plastic cover back over the sticky side and put them both into the original packaging. This has worked perfectly well for me. I would assume there are a wealth of similar products available online and in high street stores, I can only personally recommend the Primark ones at the moment.

Lastly, if you stay in a hotel and they provide a sewing kit as part of the bathroom accessories ALWAYS take them home! Simply gather them up and put one into the zipper part of every handbag you own as well as any suitcases, hand luggage etc This means that no matter where you are, there is a safety pin, a button and a needle and thread to hand!

Next time a zipper goes, or the seams start unravelling or your top threatens to expose you to the world, dot panic, just smile and simply reach into your handbag for those all important night out essentials!!

Local brand BPerfect Concealer and Highlight review

I have never properly reviewed a product before on my blog….. until now! I just had to try and spread the word about a fabulous product called BPerfect Concealer and Highlight. This is a local, Northern Ireland cosmetics brand so always worth supporting our homegrown businesses! However, I wouldn’t say this concealer was fantastic unless I really did believe that.

The product itself goes on really easily and I believe only comes in one universal colour at the moment. I specifically used the concealer on my brow bone, my chin, down the centre of my nose and slightly under the outside of the eye. This concealer just disappears into the skin and feels really silky leaving behind a beautiful, very subtle but definitely noticeable highlight/sheen. I don’t need a lot of coverage from a concealer so this worked really well for me, if you’re looking for something more substantial it may not suit.

The BPerfect concealer and highlight is actually currently on sale for £13.59 directly through the website https://www.bperfectcosmetics.com/product/bprepared-conceal-highlight/

Here are some photos of myself wearing the product, I’ve included a picture with a smoothing filter and one without!

Definitely look at trying this wonderful product! I haven’t used any of their other products as yet …. I believe they have a tanning line, brow products and other make up items so check out the website.

Women in Business Awards in Belfast

I was very lucky to attend the Women In Business Awards last night at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Shawsbridge.  I thoroughly enjoyed the night and was so inspired by the talented, hard working women all around me.

A few days ago I walked into my Belle Dress Hire room and took a deep breath…… it’s not very often that I get to wear one of my own gowns and it was actually really overwhelming! I suddenly felt immense pressure as to which style I should pick and after trying at least thirty dresses on I finally made the commitment to this gorgeous black and white gown.

I think the design inspiration behind this gown is a play on a typical tuxedo so a white, short sleeved, sequin top compliments the black, taffeta, mermaid skirt. The waist cut outs and open back ensure that the dress is feminine and elegant. I got plenty of compliments throughout the course of the evening and I have to say I did feel pretty fabulous! Initially, I did hesitate when choosing this gown as it wouldn’t be everyone’s cup of tea but to be honest I wanted to wear something that people may not have seen before and to showcase the diversity of styles available at Belle Dress Hire.

This is a “statement” dress and does not require a dramatic hairstyle or any accessories, sometimes less is more! I felt it was best to compliment the gown with diamond studs in my ears and simply slicked my hair back into a low bun but I did add plenty of gloss spray just to give my locks a more polished look.

Fashion Darhling!

I am absolutely obsessed with watching fashion based tv programmes at the moment, both UK and America based. It never ceases to amaze me just how much fashion affects people’s lives, touching on, influencing and evoking so many varying emotions.

For me personally, fashion is purely dress up! Every day I feel different when I wake up and so that totally dictates what I then select from the wardrobe to wear. Did I get a good night’s sleep and apply a little fake tan the night before? Then I grab a more revealing top and cropped trousers. Do I feel physically cold and maybe overdid the “cheat meal” the day before? Then I grab a retro tracksuit and sunglasses to hide behind.

I don’t believe I have a particular “style” that I follow or specific brands that I will only buy, I go with what catches my eye and my mood at that one moment which is why I do have a few items in the wardrobe that I will never wear again but then that to me is the fun part of fashion.  I don’t think that anyone should take fashion too seriously, obviously not including fashion designers in that statement of course!

I feel because I am quite a free spirit when it comes to fashion choices that this really helps me to help find the perfect evening dresses for my customers. I can keep an open mind as to what other ladies might like therefore sometimes really pushing clients outside of their comfort zone and what they would usually choose to wear and that goes for colour, shape, fabric etc

I have a compact yet diverse collection of gowns for ladies to try from the figure hugging jersey style to the princess ball gown silhouette to the “in your face” fabulous print patterns.

Black is Best!

Sometimes it’s the simple things in life. Black never dates, always looks good, is the best colour for slimming effects and is easy to match up with accessories. Nothing beats a good black dress! And that goes for formal gowns as well as work suits and cocktail dresses ladies.
Black can be quite harsh on the skin so if you have a blue tinge to your complexion and don’t want to wear a fake tan, I would suggest going for a dark grey or navy which will be better against your skin tone. However, if you are more shallow skinned then black can look absolutely amazing especially with the addition of a warm, golden tan.

Black is usually best left to its own devices and unlike white, there really is no need to add additional colours, except for on the lips and nails!

a bit of bling never hurt anyone and can look fabulous with black as seen here.  Sometimes it’s best to let the “black dress” do the talking!

Black strapless boned fitted dress with silver sequin (size 10) also available in white (size 6)

Belle Beauty Rocks the stage!

I absolutely loved helping to select dresses for the Miss Earth Northern Ireland 2017 competition in June. Belle customer, Arlene, came fourth place overall in her very first competition of this nature and looked stunning in both dresses from Belle Dress Hire.
For the cocktail round we decided to go for a shorter length, gold sequin, strapless style and it fitted Arlene like a glove! The bodice of this dress is boned at the bust and gives a fabulous shape to the wearer, nipping in tight at the waist. The fabric itself is quite stiff and so sits really well, no wrinkles or folds to worry about when you wear this dress.

Then for the remaining rounds of the competition, Arlene chose an AMAZING full length gown with ruffled full skirt, strapless, boned bodice in a green and navy animal print pattern. I know that sounds really bizarre but the pattern is very subtle and considering the pageant was called Miss Earth, we thought this dress was the perfect choice and again it fitted Arlene extremely well after a few nips and tucks.

Margot Robbie was in a fabulous, gold, shimmering, low neckline, Tom Ford dress at the 2016 Oscars

She almost looked like an Oscar trophy with the gold, metallic fabric and long statuesque figure in this fabulous gown.  This style totally embraces curves which is what I especially love about it.  You need a pair of hips and a bum for this ladies!  Hooray, I hear you shout!

Yes you can look like Margot Robbie at your next event, just look at this gown available at Belle Dress Hire …  This style is available in a size 10/12.  Please contact me via the website www.belledresshire.co.uk for an appointment to try this on!!

Prom dresses are BACK

For the last few years, there has been more of an avid interest in dramatic, skin tight, fitted styles with thigh high splits or deep cleavage V-necks when it comes to formal wear.  However, the tide is changing!

There has been a resurgence of pretty, “prom” style dresses on the red carpet this year at The Golden Globes, Oscars and in Cannes.  Both the young and more mature lady are turning to a soft, floaty, chiffon fabric without the harshness of structure or embellishments which can be super flattering on the figure.  Accessories, hairstyle and make up are vitally important when completing this look to ensure you keep everything fresh, understated and fashion forward.

Kaley Cuoco at the 2016 Golden Globes and Miranda Kerr in Cannes, wore their flowing, chiffon gowns immaculately whilst Heidi Klum’s lilac dress was a disaster.

I have some beautiful, free flowing dresses available for hire at your next event.  Dare to be different and embrace your femininity by choosing one of these super pretty styles at Belle Dress Hire ….

Keep it SIMPLE!!

I’m so so very sorry guys it’s been ages since I last posted, I’ve been caught up in the daily madness of my little girl who turns one tomorrow! She’s not a baby any more sadly and so I find myself with more “me” time, hence plenty of regular blog posts will be coming your way!

I’ve been keeping a close eye on the red carpet events of 2016 so far – Met Gala, Grammys, MMVAS, Tony Awards etc and have to say I feel an overall sense of disappointment in many of the celebrity fashion choices this year. But hey let’s focus on the good ones for this post and I’m going to talk about red carpet evening wear specifically as school formal season is approaching from September onwards ……

Often, when it comes to style, think the simpler the better! I give you Krysta Rodriguez and Bella Hadid at this year’s Tony Awards who display chic sophistication perfectly in their choice of strapless, clean line dresses in black and white. Don’t ever underestimate the power of this combination, especially if you team with a strong hair style and lip colour.

Belle Dress Hire has some stunningly, fabulous black and white dresses available for hire – see examples below.  So forget the dull pastels and predictable red gowns at your next event and strike a pose in some old school monochrome glamour instead!

Sisters are Doing it for Themselves!

Not only is it super fun to dress someone for a special occasion but it’s double the fun when you get to help sisters chose dresses!

Mandy (right) and Laura (left) look absolutely stunning in these full length gowns …..

10805393_10205982652313796_1334888312_n

It was a little difficult initially to select a few dresses for them each to try on at the appointment which they didn’t both love!  These sisters not only look very alike but are very close in size/shape and have the same taste just to make it extra difficult lol

Anyway, I think we found absolute winners in the electric blue and silver sequin style with cut out and side split as well as the striking black jersey dress with heavily beaded bust and mesh side cut out.

Both girls look elegant and stylish and I’m looking forward to hearing all the gossip from the night when they return the gowns this evening!

Dresses are available for hire in sizes 6/8 from Belle Dress Hire at a cost of £80 plus an additional £40 security deposit which is given back when the dress is returned undamaged.  Please see the website www.belledresshire.co.uk for more information.
