Sheer Pants!

In advance of the 2014 Oscars ceremony and in honour of all the female Hollywood actresses that will be donning excessive pairs of Spanx at this year’s red carpet, I thought we should do a tribute to knickers.

I know I harp on and on about the importance of the correct underwear especially underneath evening wear but it’s also crucial to ensure your everyday undergarments come up to par as well.  For example wearing the wrong bra size or indeed shape can totally distort your bust under sweaters and t-shirts.  With the wrong cup size you risk giving yourself an extra boob or make the error of going for no underwire and your boobs could look like they are meeting at your waist!

The same goes for pants ladies and I’m talking about all styles – thongs, boy shorts, bikini, brazilian, French knicker, full brief …….. (who would’ve though there were so many types of bloody knickers!!!)  Wear them too small and you create dents at each side of your hip which then leads to that extra bit of let’s say …. “softness” being pushed up and that creates an unsightly bulge.  This ain’t pretty and also is extremely uncomfortable.

Remember most high street stores now offer either a low or high waisted option so be sensible!  If most of your trousers and jeans rest on your hip make sure you go for the low waisted pants, otherwise you’ll be showing your choice of underwear to everyone each time you bend over the trolley at the supermarket.  Otherwise known as the ‘Whale Tail’, here’s its actual definition according to Wikipedia ….

…….. Whale tail is the Y-shaped waistband of a thong or g-string when visible above the waistline of low-rise jeans, shorts, or a skirt that resembles a whale’s tail. Intentionally or unintentionally, a whale tail is exposed above the trousers mostly when sitting or bending, or even while standing. The frequency or occasion depends on the style of trousers, the style of underwear, and the way they are worn ……..

If you saw someone’s underwear showing in Tesco’s, would you tell them??????

Even more too good to be true than you thought?

We are not stupid, we know that celebs are airbrushed within an inch of their lives for magazine interviews, advertising campaigns etc etc  It’s common knowledge.  However, did you know that some looks actually require months of planning and can involve a team of up to 30 people???????????  Stylists, beauticians, hairdressers, dieticians, plastic surgeons ….. the list goes on and on.  Just imagine how God dam fantastic YOU would look with a quarter of these experts working on making you camera ready!

Interested in a mini eye/brow lift?  Then look no further and book an appointment with Alterna Haircare because they sew a patch of lace into tight pin-curls using nylon curls, which helps lift the brows and smooth wrinkles around the eyes.  ‘Then we top it with a $7,000 wig and no one knows our little secret!’ says Global Creative Director at Alterna, Michael Shaun Corby.

Think tape is only used for DIY purposes?  Think again!!  Double-stick tape is a stylist’s No. 1 tool which helps disguise panty lines in a very revealing dress and is even used to tighten skin on certain areas of the body!  Who knew!

Another wince at the sound of it procedure that I believe is very popular before red carpet events is to have Botox injected ……. into the forehead I hear you say!  Well yes, but also into the armpits to reduce sweating and even EEK into the soles of the feet to alleviate pain from those Jimmy Choos.

As I said at the very beginning, we are not fooled easily and can recognise a photoshopped pure white eyeball when we see one, but for some reason unknown to man, we still try to emulate these “fake and unachievable” looks! We still beat ourselves up that we’re not a size zero.  We still continue to stuff our bodies into spanx, boobs into wonder bras and feet into sky scrapper heels just look slimmer, bustier and taller.  All in the hope of achieving that “photoshopped look” which is unrealistic and doesn’t exist!

Why oh why do we torture ourselves.  When will we begin to love ourselves for the wonderful women that we are?  Sure, of course we can admire from afar when we see beauty but leave it at that and not begin to compare and contrasts thigh gaps, ‘ribbage’ (when ribs can be seen through the skin, apparently!) and any more of these bizarre, obscene and ridiculous phrases being used at the moment.

Love yourself.  If you don’t, how can you expect someone else to love you?

These Belle Dress Hire customers prove that you don’t need a squad of professionals working on you day and night!  All you need is an awesome dress and a lick of tan to look absolutely stunning …

Black is Best at the Baftas …

I know the Brits were much more recent, but I just refuse to post about this event as I find it total cringe TV.  All I will say is that I loved Rita Ora’s canary yellow dress and leave it at that.

Anyway, onto bigger and better things, such as …… the Baftas!  I know I have commented a number of times in January that classic black seemed a very popular choice for celebs and I have to say the trend is continuing if we look at Uma Thurman, Angelina Jolie, Helen Mirren and Amy Adams ..

I think these ladies look absolutely stunning!  I LOVE all of their looks.  I’m sorry but there is no getting away from the fact that BLACK IS THEE MOST FLATTERING COLOUR ON THE FIGURE.  Yes it can be harsh on the skin which is why I also recommend navy to my customers at Belle Dress Hire, but if the fit is perfect, black will make you look slimmer than any other colour.  Besides it looks AMAZING with a strong red lip so that can be your colour comfort.

However, those on the red carpet of the Baftas that decided to go with a colour, really did make an impact!  Some in a good way, others were I’m sorry to say, a total disaster!

Looking at the positive …… Lupita Nyong’o continues to make fashion statements in a stunning shade of emerald green which complimented her skin tone to absolute perfection.

And I just have to put a mention in for Oprah Winfrey who looked fabulous in a rich plum coloured dress which really suited her shape.  She is dressing SO well at the moment, go Oprah!

Then the negative, or should I say TRAGIC!  Fearne Cotton, Lily Allen and Claudia Winkleman WTF were you thinking???????????????  This goes beyond making bad fashion choices, their looks can only be branded as ridiculous.

By the way, just a word of advice for you Claudia, if you make a total arse of yourself in front of the world’s media on the red carpet with streaky black liner, TRY TO LEARN FROM YOUR MISTAKES.  We kind of felt sorry for you the first time, but now, I’m sorry I’m just going to be harsh, we pity you.
