When hatred becomes involved with fashion.

A 12-year-old schoolgirl is believed to have hanged herself after being tormented by online cyber bullies about her hair and clothes.  How disgusting has our society become!?

I know a very beautiful eleven year old girl who is extremely conscious of her weight and also what other people think of her fashion choices which are actually made mostly by her mum.  A non uniform day at school becomes traumatic and she spends days in advance planning her outfit.  There is a constant need and desire to “fit in” and acceptance from her peers is paramount.

I can’t even begin to imagine how distressed a 12 year old girl must have felt to take her own life.  I honestly feel depressed when I read stories about young girls being targeted for something so trivial as their appearance but it is obviously extremely rife and if we have young relatives whether they are sisters, nieces, godchildren …… we need to support them so they don’t ever consider taking such drastic action.

Black is best at Olivier Awards!

Just because we’re technically in Spring and approaching the Summer season, doesn’t necessarily mean that you can’t wear black or a dark colour to an event as many starlets did at the 2013 Olivier Awards in London.

Black is classic, chic, timeless, never goes out of fashion, is the most slimming colour and is a perfect canvas for adding colour through accessories and make up.  It also can worn by both young and more mature women.

Gwyneth not on her own at Iron Man 3 Premiere ….

Unusual fashion choices were definitely on the agenda in California this week!  Not only did Gwyneth Paltrow dare to bare in an extremely, sheer, see through dress but just read about these also very strange outfits at the same event.

The first orange, heavily patterned, peplum dress is bang on trend with it’s skin revealing torso but the heavy black shoes are very bizarre and did it really need the addition of an ornate necklace????  The second photo shown here shows a very structured dress, very square in shape which in general is not very flattering on the wearer.  Mmm again, I’m just not in love with this dress either even though it’s good to see those on the red carpet taking more risks with fashion.  Again on the fence with these two outfits!

Dare to bare like Gwyneth?

My oh my!  Recently hailed as the World’s Most Beautiful Woman by People Magazine, Gwyneth Paltrow stepped out in an incredibly daring dress at an Iron Man 3 premiere in California this week.  Like the style or not, you have to give Gwyneth credit for having such an amazing figure at 40 years of age and for being so brave to risk this very daring fashion choice.  There are things I like about this dress and things I don’t, so I’m really on the fence as to whether I love the style or not …. What do you guys think?

Could you cut up Vera Wang??

I read about two twin sisters from California who have started a company that makes use of old wedding dresses.  Rather than these once thought of as a “one day” outfit collect dust in a wardrobe or under a bed, Lindsey and Jennifer Radoff transform them into pillows, baby blankets and even picture frames!

What an exciting, inspirational and clever idea!  This concept can be used by all of us and not just for wedding dresses, christening robes or bridesmaid gowns, we all have items in our our closet which are dying for a little TLC makeover.

This can also be done very inexpensively as well …  think the addition of ribbon trim, a few sequin or something really simple like a brooch!  You don’t have to own a sewing machine, this can all can be achieved with some time, a needle and thread.

Just check out more inspiring photo examples from the sisters to get your ideas and creativity flowing ….

Julianne Hough gets it right!!

I recently posted about an outfit which Julianne Hough wore that reminded me of an Irish Dancing costume and was a bad choice in my opinion.  BUT she has completely redeemed herself in this gorgeous, all white ensemble …

Stylish, simple and totally stunning.  The addition of a coloured brooch at the neck is just perfect.  I love her simply styled hair, minimal make up and accessories.  Julianne is a young woman so I’m delighted to see her in something fresh and modern.  The stylist has definitely got it right with this look which can be easily replicated with items from the high street!

Another pregnant lady showing how it should be done!!

Michael Buble’s wife, Luisana in a full length, red lace, plunging dress.  Wow!  The colour is fabulous with her blonde hair and is sexy without showing too much skin.  I love the addition of the matching scarlet red lipstick.  It does help of course, the fact that she’s a model, but take note of how elegant she looks in her dress ….

Gwyneth Paltrow and Kate Hudson at Tiffany & Co event …

Gwyneth and Kate decided to wear blue gowns at a recent Tiffany & Co party which was extremely fitting considering the company is well known for it’s famous “blue box”.

I love Kate’s dress which is floaty, elegant and feminine.  It fits her figure beautifully and really suits her blonde hair.

The only issue I have is the fabric of this dress.  Chiffon or silk dresses will always wrinkle because the fabric is so delicate.  No matter how expensive the gown this will unfortunately happen as your body naturally moves and twists around so you can see a few wrinkles around the thigh and hem of the dress in the above photo.

Gwyneth on the other hand ….. what can I say, I usually love her effortless style but I really don’t like this dress at all.  I feel the colour is too wishy washy on her and the shape is not flattering, it just seems too big all over and “bag-like”.  The fabric again isn’t great and just look at the awful puckers and pulled threads visible in the first photo just below Gwyneth’s hand!!!  Dreadful!!

Updo’s for special occasions!

I had an amazing day with Gillian Cargo yesterday!  It was my first experience as a hair model and I really enjoyed it, especially as Gillian is so talented.  Anyone hiring a dress from Belle Dress Hire and needs an “updo” for their event, look no further as Gillian comes to your home and is an extremely talented hair stylist!  I have some of Gillian’s business cards so you can contact her directly.  Here are a few sample photos from yesterday …

And I quote Coco Chanel

Here are just a few amazing quotes from the lips of the infamous Coco Chanel, a fashion icon and legend.  Her thoughts and ideas can still inspire us today ..

“Dress shabbily and they remember the dress; dress impeccably and they remember the woman.”

“Simplicity is the keynote of all true elegance.”

“I don’t care what you think about me. I don’t think about you at all.”

“Fashion changes, but style endures.”

“The best colour in the whole world is the one that looks good on you.”

“Adornment, what a science! Beauty, what a weapon! Modesty, what elegance!”

Take heed of these words …. and yes Keisha, I’m talking to you!!!
