I have had this beautiful black and white dress at Belle for awhile now. People have been put off by it’s brazen and bold simplicity, besides they have been much more impressed with the nearby twinkle of crystals and sequin.
So I was delighted when the young Milly dared to try on this gorgeous monochrome style for her school formal. This dress must be worn on somebody tall so that the lighter side panels hit the waist and hips at just the right point. Milly had a beautiful, elongated torso therefore the dress looked stunning on her. I was delighted to hear that she and date won the coveted “Best Dressed Couple” award at the formal.
When Milly came to see me she had no make-up on and was dressed very casually with hair in a ponytail. I knew the dress would be fabulous but even I was blown away when I saw this photo of her ……….
Girls, sometimes it pays to be brave and wear something different, something unexpected. Remember you want to stand out at your formal, not blend in. Take a risk and chose a dress that you love not one that you think other people will like.
All you lovely, young ladies out there who are attending a school formal in September/October, I just wanted to let you know that girls from Lurgan, Portadown, Kilkeel, Belfast and Lisburn have already started coming to appointments at Belle Dress Hire and are reserving dresses for hire.
As Belle Dress Hire specialises in exclusive, high end styles, once a number of dresses have been reserved for a particular school formal then unfortunately I will not be able to take any further appointments so as to avoid only being able to offer a small selection of gowns to someone at an appointment.
Just a heads up that if you are interested in hiring a dress for your school formal, it’s never too early to select a dress and pay your deposit as it can sometimes take weeks to find matching shoes and accessorises. Plus you want plenty of time to research and experiment with complimenting hair styles and make up.
Belle Dresses range from sizes 6 through to 18 and for a quick response use the contact us form on the website to make an appointment.
OMG, I cannot believe just how disappointed I am in this year’s Golden Globe gowns.
These women can wear anything they want, budget is not an issue, they have bodies to die for ….. And seriously THIS is what they come up with????? Zoe Saldana, I normally LOVE your style but …. ridiculous.
I’m going to look at a few more really bad ones. This red carpet seemed to be all about colour which I love because after the bleak winter blues it’s fun to start the year with some fresh colour to reignite the senses …. however, I would say that these dresses were colour clashes gone horribly wrong! Should have stuck to black Sandra Bullock, Jennifer Laurence, Amy Adams ….. And honestly Reese Witherspoon, is that the most imaginative style your team could come up with????
And whilst we’re on the subject of colour, when you have your own personal GLAM SQUAD that spend probably about 6-8 hours doing your hair and make up for an event such as this, wouldn’t you make sure that it looks like you have lips in photos????!!!!!! A nude lip might be nice up close but in photos, both Heidi Klum and Naomi Watts look totally washed out. That’s a tip for all you girls attending school formals soon, make sure to add a touch of colour to the lips for photos, it really makes a huge difference! Especially if you have blonde hair and pale skin like Naomi …
I’m going to start trawling through more photos at the Golden Globes to TRY and find some Hollywood stars that actually looked decent on the red carpet yesterday. WARNING: this may take a while.
It’s that time of year again ladies, school formal madness has officially hit!
At the moment, most appointments I have already seen in 2014 are for formals in February – Little Flower, Dromore High, Girls Model …..
It seems that a lot of school formals are happening on the week of St Valentine’s Day, so if you haven’t already sorted yourself out with a dress or perhaps you’ve just bagged yourself a recent invitation, why not hire one of these beautiful, brand new styles which have just arrived at Belle Dress Hire …
This gorgeous, mint green, chiffon dress has diamante beading across the waist and an unusual double strap detail at the neck. Pale colours are all in for this season so the mint green is a perfect choice for brunettes, blondes and indeed red heads!
Or perhaps you would prefer a halter neck neckline and aren’t a big fan of diamante beading or fuss …. then this next style would be ideal! This rich raspberry shade would look amazing with tanned skin and is effortlessly stylish without trying too hard ..
And then the final new gown to hit Belle Dress Hire is this GORGEOUS strapless gold and white dress. It’s so simple yet girlie and very pretty. This style offers loads of options for hair dos and make up.
So if you have a school formal coming up this side of the summer or indeed later in the year, make sure you get in for an appointment nice and early so you get the best pick of all the new dresses!!
This fabulous dress from my Paris collection has been sitting in the Belle Dress Hire room for more than 6 months. I was beginning to lose hope that it would ever be given a chance. This gorgeous, full length, ruby red, silk jersey dress with mesh and beaded detail at the front and the back, really is a stunning dress. Ladies have tried it on before but for whatever reason decided to go with another gown instead of this one so I was delighted whenever Linsey Keery came to me for an appointment to find a style for the Regent House Grammar School formal and fell in love with the dress.
The dress is a tiny size 6/8 so you need to be very slight and also not top heavy to wear this style to the full and so it matched Linsey’s figure to perfection!
In the past, young girls who have come to me for a formal dress appointment have been afraid to even try this dress on as they thought it was too mature …. however, Linsey has shown that by keeping accessories to an absolute minimum and wearing a young hairstyle and make up, you can definitely ROCK this type of style at a school formal.
I have to also add that sometimes my dresses come back after school formals in a less than ideal condition but when Linsey returned the dress at the weekend, I pulled down the zipper on the dress bag to reveal a practically immaculate dress. No chewing gum or cigarette burns along the hem, no plucks on the fabric, no overwhelming smell of alcohol …. I was so impressed and emailed her to say that she was a credit to her parents and welcome back at Belle Dress Hire any time!!
I am really enjoying all of the recent weeks of appointments I have had with such lovely young ladies attending their school formals. During the past fortnight, I have been visited by girls from schools such as Glenola Bangor, St Louise’s Belfast, Friends Lisburn, Ballyclare High and as far a field as Coleraine and Newry.
It must be so exciting for you girls to try out an array of full length evening gowns for the very first time! Red seems to be as popular as always this year as well as white. I have also noticed that a love for embellished, glitzy dresses has increased which is lovely to see, as your first school formal will always be the one that you remember! So why not go all out ….
As the next three months are a prime time for school formals, if you have an awards ceremony, black tie wedding or Christmas event coming up, I would suggest that you make an appointment with Belle Dress Hire well in advance so you won’t be disappointed if an appointment slot isn’t available. Unfortunately, Belle Dress Hire operates on an appointment only basis and it’s a first come first served process!
I just had to show everyone a photo of my very first belle dress hire customer! Olivia wanted a very simple yet elegant dress for her school formal so she selected a stunning grecian inspired, off-white, full length dress with gold and bronze beading. Olivia exaggerated the “grecian” theme by incorporating plaits into her hair and finished the look with a complimenting necklace. This look is youthful and fresh, therefore a perfect age appropriate dress for a school formal. This dress is available to hire from belle in sizes 8, 10 and 12.
Anyone looking out at that shockingly awful rain, sleet, wind and hailstones today would be depressed! So why not book an appointment with Belle Dress Hire and cheer yourself up. If you have a summer ball, school formal, wedding, black tie event or any other special occasion on the horizon we would love to help find you a dress to beat these weather blues!
