Even more too good to be true than you thought?

We are not stupid, we know that celebs are airbrushed within an inch of their lives for magazine interviews, advertising campaigns etc etc  It’s common knowledge.  However, did you know that some looks actually require months of planning and can involve a team of up to 30 people???????????  Stylists, beauticians, hairdressers, dieticians, plastic surgeons ….. the list goes on and on.  Just imagine how God dam fantastic YOU would look with a quarter of these experts working on making you camera ready!

Interested in a mini eye/brow lift?  Then look no further and book an appointment with Alterna Haircare because they sew a patch of lace into tight pin-curls using nylon curls, which helps lift the brows and smooth wrinkles around the eyes.  ‘Then we top it with a $7,000 wig and no one knows our little secret!’ says Global Creative Director at Alterna, Michael Shaun Corby.

Think tape is only used for DIY purposes?  Think again!!  Double-stick tape is a stylist’s No. 1 tool which helps disguise panty lines in a very revealing dress and is even used to tighten skin on certain areas of the body!  Who knew!

Another wince at the sound of it procedure that I believe is very popular before red carpet events is to have Botox injected ……. into the forehead I hear you say!  Well yes, but also into the armpits to reduce sweating and even EEK into the soles of the feet to alleviate pain from those Jimmy Choos.

As I said at the very beginning, we are not fooled easily and can recognise a photoshopped pure white eyeball when we see one, but for some reason unknown to man, we still try to emulate these “fake and unachievable” looks! We still beat ourselves up that we’re not a size zero.  We still continue to stuff our bodies into spanx, boobs into wonder bras and feet into sky scrapper heels just look slimmer, bustier and taller.  All in the hope of achieving that “photoshopped look” which is unrealistic and doesn’t exist!

Why oh why do we torture ourselves.  When will we begin to love ourselves for the wonderful women that we are?  Sure, of course we can admire from afar when we see beauty but leave it at that and not begin to compare and contrasts thigh gaps, ‘ribbage’ (when ribs can be seen through the skin, apparently!) and any more of these bizarre, obscene and ridiculous phrases being used at the moment.

Love yourself.  If you don’t, how can you expect someone else to love you?

These Belle Dress Hire customers prove that you don’t need a squad of professionals working on you day and night!  All you need is an awesome dress and a lick of tan to look absolutely stunning …

Posture in Heels ….

I decided to get my precious Jimmy Choo out from their box at the weekend to wear to an anniversary party at the Crawfordsburn Inn which is just outside Bangor.

With all this glorious sunshine we’ve been experiencing lately in Belfast, I have of course been wearing sandals and flip flops to keep my feet cool.  It was great to finally put on a pair of heels on Saturday night as you immediately feel more glamorous BUT little did I know how much pain I would be in the next day!

Woke up on Sunday morning and bounced out of bed only to yelp in pain at the ache in my thighs and calves!  I had no idea just how much your legs work harder in a pair of high heels.  I always knew that heels instantly make you stand straighter and work wonders for your posture but I underestimated just how true this statement actually is.

Ladies, if you are wearing heels to an event (especially if they’re new) make sure you practice wearing them in advance!!!  Nothing looks worse than a lady who very obviously can’t walk in her shoes.  No point in wearing a gorgeous dress from Belle Dress Hire, fab spray tan and nails if you’re wobbling all over the place!  If like me you’ve been wearing flat shoes during the Summer, make sure you wear heels around the house a few days before your event to prevent aching muscles and poor posture on the big night!

Olivia Palermo enters the ring ….

I have always been a fan of Olivia’s style and have to say she hasn’t disappointed in this outfit.  Unlike Nicole Ritchie, Olivia has decided to go with a bight, vivid, yellow dress to celebrate the warmer Spring weather.  There are things I love about this outfit but certainly a few things I’m not so keen on.

Olivia is always commended for her talent in pairing the right accessories with any outfit.  Generally, she goes with very polished and simple lines such as a top, jacket and pencil trousers for example but then makes the outfit stylish by adding a vintage necklace and amazing shoes.  Once again this is what Olivia has done.  However, there are a few things niggling at me.  I feel the addition of the jewelled necklace and belt is a tad too much.  I think she should have gone with one or the other.  I also have to point out that the fabric of this dress is badly wrinkled which is a pet hate of mine and tends to make the dress look cheap.  I also think the addition of the oversized clutch, again is just an accessory too far and is detracting from the overall look.

Let’s get back to the positives though!  Just look at these shoes!!!  Talk about screaming Spring/Summer!  They are absolutely stunning.   I believe they are Jimmy Choo and probably cost a small fortune but hey a girl can dream!  If you have the money to invest, these shoes could be worn to dress up a pair of shorts, cut off jeans, pencil trousers, a dress, jumpsuit …. the list is endless!
