OMG, I cannot believe just how disappointed I am in this year’s Golden Globe gowns.
These women can wear anything they want, budget is not an issue, they have bodies to die for ….. And seriously THIS is what they come up with????? Zoe Saldana, I normally LOVE your style but …. ridiculous.
I’m going to look at a few more really bad ones. This red carpet seemed to be all about colour which I love because after the bleak winter blues it’s fun to start the year with some fresh colour to reignite the senses …. however, I would say that these dresses were colour clashes gone horribly wrong! Should have stuck to black Sandra Bullock, Jennifer Laurence, Amy Adams ….. And honestly Reese Witherspoon, is that the most imaginative style your team could come up with????
And whilst we’re on the subject of colour, when you have your own personal GLAM SQUAD that spend probably about 6-8 hours doing your hair and make up for an event such as this, wouldn’t you make sure that it looks like you have lips in photos????!!!!!! A nude lip might be nice up close but in photos, both Heidi Klum and Naomi Watts look totally washed out. That’s a tip for all you girls attending school formals soon, make sure to add a touch of colour to the lips for photos, it really makes a huge difference! Especially if you have blonde hair and pale skin like Naomi …
I’m going to start trawling through more photos at the Golden Globes to TRY and find some Hollywood stars that actually looked decent on the red carpet yesterday. WARNING: this may take a while.
Jennifer Lawrence wore a flapper inspired below the knee dress to the The Hunger Games: Catching Fire premiere in London last night. I have to be honest and say I’m not a big fan of Jennifer’s new pixie cut as I just don’t think it suits the shape of her face very well and also it actually looks pretty messy.
That aside, when I actually looked more closely at her dress I realised that the top as well as the back is so similar to an amazing dress available at Belle Dress Hire!
Both have a sheer mesh panel across the neck, black beaded detail at the bust and along the V shaped low cut out back.
This dress is available to hire at Belle Dress Hire for just £70 and I may come across as bias when I say this, but I think this style is actually nicer than Jennifer’s!!
My fashion crush of the moment, Lily Collins demonstrates just how fabulous and modern the fabric taffeta can be! Lily was seen at the German Premiere of film The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones with co star Jamie Campbell Bowers in a fabulous two piece.
Generally, people perceive taffeta to be an old fashioned, bridesmaid dress fabric but how wrong you would be to dismiss this fabric choice. Taffeta is actually extremely flattering on the figure. With a luxurious sheen within the material and a natural stiffness, taffeta photographs extremely well and lasts for years without losing it’s goodness.
Lily is showing us just how easy it is to pair a current trend of “the cropped top” with an older concept of a fuller skirt. Add a few bits of chunky, gold jewelry and you have an instant style hit!
When I looked into this in more detail I’ve actually been able to find quite a few celebs who have not been ashamed to don taffeta on the red carpet! Keira Knightley, Jennifer Aniston, and Jennifer Lawrence have all showcased this fabulous fabric before.
At Belle Dress Hire, I have a stunning taffeta, mermaid shaped dress which I wish more ladies would give a chance! This is exactly the same shape in the skirt as Lily Collin’s so it’s very current and on trend. Available to hire in a size 10, this style also comes with an accompanying wrap for around the shoulders and would look absolutely stunning at a wedding ….

I know “big” prom style dresses for a formal or event have been considered as old fashioned or dare I say it …. “Gypsy Weddingish” of late but some of the ladies at this year’s Oscars both young and more mature, showed us just how show stopping a more voluminous dress can be!
Belle Dress Hire has a few “fuller skirt” styles which are calling out to be hired! I have had difficulty asking customers to give these dresses a try when they come for an appointment but once they have tried them on, they’ve been amazed at how stylish the dresses look. There are lots of positives if you go for a more voluminous dress for your event – you can keep accessories to a minimum (which saves you money!), you can generally get away with shoes you already have in the wardrobe because no one can see your feet, you will stand out in a room full of slinky, more fitted dresses plus you can actually dance and enjoy your dinner without having to hold your tummy in all night!!
A very important and crucial thing to bear in mind if you want to go for a similar style , is to ensure that the top of the dress fits immaculately! The bust and waist must fit very snugly so that you still have shape definition. If I get an invitation to an event soon, I know I would definitely want to make a style statement and go for a bigger skirted dress. …
The ladies below were definitely among my favourites at this year’s Oscar celebrations. All very different styles but impeccably tailored and accessorized to perfection! I champion Zoe Saldana and Naomi Watts for their red carpet choices, simply because they stood out. No one else wore anything remotely similiar to the event. Whilst Zoe decided to go with a nude lip and understated make up, Jessica Chastain definitely completed her look with a fantastic red lipstick, channelling Jessica Rabbit with her lightly waved hair. Just beautiful! Let’s not forget Jennifer Lawrence in her show stopping Dior Couture gown! As the face of Dior it was expected that she would wear one of the designer’s gowns but no one would have foreseen the amazing bejewelled back necklace she teamed with the dress which is something I have never seen before.
We all know there’s nothing more horrifying than turning up at an event and seeing another female in exactly the same dress! Thee most cringe worthy moment when you want the ground to open up and swallow you, right?? However, there is a situation even worse than this, much worse! How do you think you would feel if you ripped your dress at a Hollywood Awards ceremony in front of hundreds of your peers and the world’s press were there to capture it all on film? Your absolute worst nightmare, right? I give you poor Jennifer Lawrence at the Screen Actors Guild Awards ….
Poor Jennifer accepted her Best Female Actor Award after ripping her gown in full view of the audience!
