Keep it SIMPLE!!

I’m so so very sorry guys it’s been ages since I last posted, I’ve been caught up in the daily madness of my little girl who turns one tomorrow! She’s not a baby any more sadly and so I find myself with more “me” time, hence plenty of regular blog posts will be coming your way!

I’ve been keeping a close eye on the red carpet events of 2016 so far – Met Gala, Grammys, MMVAS, Tony Awards etc and have to say I feel an overall sense of disappointment in many of the celebrity fashion choices this year. But hey let’s focus on the good ones for this post and I’m going to talk about red carpet evening wear specifically as school formal season is approaching from September onwards ……

Often, when it comes to style, think the simpler the better! I give you Krysta Rodriguez and Bella Hadid at this year’s Tony Awards who display chic sophistication perfectly in their choice of strapless, clean line dresses in black and white. Don’t ever underestimate the power of this combination, especially if you team with a strong hair style and lip colour.

Belle Dress Hire has some stunningly, fabulous black and white dresses available for hire – see examples below.  So forget the dull pastels and predictable red gowns at your next event and strike a pose in some old school monochrome glamour instead!

This dress is available to hire in a stunning raspberry shade which is so striking especially in the Summer.

Now one of the main reasons Blake makes this dress look even more special is the addition of coloured ear rings in a rich turquoise.  Because it’s coming into the warmth of Summer you can afford to think outside of the box in terms of accessories at Black Tie events.  Take a leaf out of Blake’s book and snub the traditional diamante bling ear-rings, bracelets etc at your next event.  It could just make the difference and turn a simple, elegant gown into a fashion forward, eye catching statement.

Evening Gown Envy!

Every now and again I get seriously green eyed when I see red carpet dresses that I think are amazing!

Unfortunately, without a mega budget, these styles will only be seen in my dreams, but hey I still love to imagine what I would look like wearing them!  After seeing this year’s Met Ball photos, I fell hard for some of the looks and I mean HARD!

…. Emma Stone and Blake Lively pulled out all the stops to impress hostess Vogue Editor, Anna Wintour, in gowns by Thakoon and Gucci Premi

And you have to admire the simply stunningly bold Oscar De La Renta dress worn by SJP.  Love or hate it you have to admit it makes a statement and gloriously celebrates fashion which is what the Met Ball is all about!

BIG time, serious dress envy when I saw Rosie Huntington Whiteley wear a jaw droppingly daring Balmain sort dress!  I WANT it

Aaahhhhh, I would die happy if I had Victoria Beckham’s dress hanging in my wardrobe.  You NEVER disappoint VB and I love the fact this is from her own collection with trademark full zip running the length of the dress at the back ..

And I have to admit I actually really like Chrissy Teigen’s dress by Ralph Lauren as well.  It wasn’t my absolute favourite of the night BUT I loved the collar detail.  I thought it was stunningly elegant and the silver grey colour did stand out from the crowd too

Back to daydreaming about these gorgeous gowns and the gorgeous women who wore them. Bloody lucky ducks!!!

New Dresses arriving this weekend …..

Some absolutely gorgeous new styles coming to Belle Dress Hire which will be available to hire from next week onwards …..

This absolutely gorgeous dress in a champagne coloured chiffon is available for hire in a size 8/10.  The deep, rich shade will look extremely elegant on but would need a warm skin colour to accompany it, so for most customers this will involve a light spray tan.  The ruching and boning from the bust down through the waist and into the hip gives the wearer a fabulous silhouette and a great shape!  No need for spanx with this ladies, the dress does all the hard work!

You should check out some similar dresses worn by Glee actress, Diana Agron and Stacy Keibler which have appeared on the red carpet .

This next new style at Belle Dress Hire in a size 12 is certainly simple in style but makes up for it in terms of shape and quality of fit.  The strapless neckline gives the shoulders a beautiful, elegant line and the nipped in waist again gives a great shape.  The strong, vibrant magenta colour is really striking and will suit blondes, brunettes and redheads!  There is a little detail with some beading/diamante but no reason why you couldn’t bling this up with drop statement ear rings …..

It is an extremely busy time of year and evening appointments are the most popular so make sure to get an appointment at Belle Dress Hire by using the Contact Form to ensure you are in the diary.

I have a dress JUST like Kim Kardashian’s!

Ladies, I have recently added a new raspberry coloured, chiffon, halter neck dress to the collection at Belle Dress Hire in a size 8/10 AND have just discovered that Kim Kardashian wore a practically identical dress to the 2014 Elton John Oscar Party!

With a sleek do and red lips, Kim looked fabulous in this style and so can you!  The halter neckline means that it actually suits all bust-lines.  Now I know that Kim is on the slightly more voluptuous side when it comes to cup size but this dress looks gorgeous on a smaller bust as well (especially due to the discrete, sewn in bra cups – sshh no one will know!).

Ok, I’ll admit that Kim Kardashian’s dress is a different fabric to the one available at Belle Dress Hire BUT that and the designer label sewn inside are the only visible differences between these dresses.  The main and most important difference of course ladies is that one of them costs just £70 to hire!!!!

Black is Best at the Baftas …

I know the Brits were much more recent, but I just refuse to post about this event as I find it total cringe TV.  All I will say is that I loved Rita Ora’s canary yellow dress and leave it at that.

Anyway, onto bigger and better things, such as …… the Baftas!  I know I have commented a number of times in January that classic black seemed a very popular choice for celebs and I have to say the trend is continuing if we look at Uma Thurman, Angelina Jolie, Helen Mirren and Amy Adams ..

I think these ladies look absolutely stunning!  I LOVE all of their looks.  I’m sorry but there is no getting away from the fact that BLACK IS THEE MOST FLATTERING COLOUR ON THE FIGURE.  Yes it can be harsh on the skin which is why I also recommend navy to my customers at Belle Dress Hire, but if the fit is perfect, black will make you look slimmer than any other colour.  Besides it looks AMAZING with a strong red lip so that can be your colour comfort.

However, those on the red carpet of the Baftas that decided to go with a colour, really did make an impact!  Some in a good way, others were I’m sorry to say, a total disaster!

Looking at the positive …… Lupita Nyong’o continues to make fashion statements in a stunning shade of emerald green which complimented her skin tone to absolute perfection.

And I just have to put a mention in for Oprah Winfrey who looked fabulous in a rich plum coloured dress which really suited her shape.  She is dressing SO well at the moment, go Oprah!

Then the negative, or should I say TRAGIC!  Fearne Cotton, Lily Allen and Claudia Winkleman WTF were you thinking???????????????  This goes beyond making bad fashion choices, their looks can only be branded as ridiculous.

By the way, just a word of advice for you Claudia, if you make a total arse of yourself in front of the world’s media on the red carpet with streaky black liner, TRY TO LEARN FROM YOUR MISTAKES.  We kind of felt sorry for you the first time, but now, I’m sorry I’m just going to be harsh, we pity you.

Finally! Some good uns at the Golden Globes ….

…… Well not exactly mind-blowingly fabulous, but a hell of a lot better than most!!!

Taylor Swift was certainly in favour of the colour trend that seemed to be everywhere at this event but unlike some of her peers, she seems to have been able to wear the dress rather than the other way around.  Perhaps it’s the fact that she’s very tall and slight in figure which means the dress doesn’t swamp her.  Also, the fact that it’s black paired with another colour might also have helped with this style as well rather than two clashing colours or a mixture of hues all at once.

Jessica Chastain shows us how a simple, black, well shaped Givenchy dress can look great on the red carpet.  It’s not a boring choice …. although doesn’t massively excite me either, it fits her body really well and she looks effortlessly chic.

I do like this fishtail gown on Kate Beckinsale, who always chooses the more “glamorous” options for red carpets and you can see why!  The sex siren style just suits her!  She always keeps her hair and make up nice and simple but pairs this with a va va voom dress and Voila!  Not my favourite dress at this event but at least she looks like she made a bloody effort!

I have two blog posts left on the 2014 Golden Globes …. One I will reserve completely for Emma Watson in Christian Dior and the other on the dresses that I really loved at this year’s event and there aren’t too many of them ….

Need ideas for long hair???

OMG just came across an AMAZING site for those of you out there with super long manes like myself.

When the hair is longer, you have so many styles to emulate and it just so happens I came across this website that has loads of ideas all in the one place!

Just click on the hair style that you are interested in and it will give you a link to that website, You Tube vid etc

Fantastic ideas for party hair, every day office/school hair and for school formals as well.  The best thing about it is all the ideas are based onlong hair!! So pleased I have found this!!  Check out http://www.pinterest.com/heather_haskett/long-hair-style-ideas/

Feeling Self Conscious??

It is extremely difficult to find an evening dress with sleeves or a style that doesn’t plunge down to the navel simply because these more risque gowns tend to be the most popular styles.

So what happens when you aren’t feeling the best in terms of body confidence but still want to look stunning at your next event?

It’s very simple.  Come to see me at Belle Dress Hire with a one on one appointment for a full hour completely devoted to finding the right dress for you!  Covering up the bust, leg and arms in an evening dress doesn’t have to be boring.  In fact more and more celebs are tending to chose less flesh revealing dresses on the red carpet simply because they can look extremely elegant, timeless and chic.

This amazing dress in a rich, deep navy with sequin and mesh detailing is now available to hire at Belle Dress Hire in a size 16 and will fit the body extremely well whilst “hiding” a multitude of sins ..

Can you wear pink with red??

The answer is …. YES!

Diane Kruger wore an outfit on the red carpet to attend Autism Speaks third annual Blue Jean Ball.  To be honest, I don’t love the dress.  For some reason it reminds me of a nurses uniform and I can’t shake this every time I look at a photo.  However, that aside, Diane proves to us that we can be daring with colour choices and make it look stylish and cool.

Pink paired with red would for some would be a definite fashion no-no, but Diane has learnt from the ultimate fashion icon, Princess Diana whom actually wore this colour combination quite a few times.  This is just a short post to really say, be brave with colour!  Experiment and embrace strong colour choices especially in the winter when we could all do with a lift!  Pink coats are all the rage at the moment, so why not be bold and pair with a red scarf and gloves perhaps?
