Miss World? YES PLEASE!!

I remember watching Miss World as a really young girl and thinking the women were the most beautiful things I had ever seen.

Two decades later and  things haven’t changed much.  In fact, incredibly this year’s contestants look even more stunning and I thought that was impossible!  Shrouded in controversy, there is no shadow of a doubt that this competition involves the most glamorous, beautiful women from across the globe…The hair, the make-up, the skin, the jewelry, just amazing!  I know Miss World isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but you can’t deny how mindblowingly beautiful these women are …And if you fancy hiring a “Miss World” worthy dress for your next special event, check out this fabulous NEW style which will be available at Belle Dress Hire from Monday 30th September in a size 6 …

Dress better than Cat!!

Mmmm if you want to wear a stunning black dress but do a much better job than Cat Deeley did at this year’s Emmys, hire this stunning style from Belle Dress Hire ..

2059-bi-01.27(1)

This halterneck dress with full sequin skirt is effortlessly elegant and sexy!  It offers the best of both worlds with a plainer top and va va voom skirt.  This dress works extremely well on curvy ladies so hips and a bust are required!!

Poor Cat Deeley had a disaster in this similarly shaped black dress.  Problem was there simply wasn’t enough dress AND she hadn’t the curves to fill the dress out and make a real statement.  The result is fairly unflattering and will land Cat in the worst dressed lists I’m sure which is a rarity as she usually gets it so right!

Getting it right from behind at the Emmys!!

Following on from my previous post about this year’s red carpet at Downtown L.A’s Nokia Theatre, I wanted to comment on another trend that seemed to be making a scene.  Sheer madness baby!!  Once again, starlets such as Julianne Hough, Homeland’s Claire Danes and indeed Padma Lakshmi all chose to display a little more flesh that usual, but kept things tasteful with the addition of sheer mesh fabric.

Both of these ladies have again decided to pick a very pale hue but have kept the style daring and fashionable because they are flashing a little skin.  Remember ladies, if you are going to copy this look, your skin must be toned and in fab condition.

Although, I applaud Julianne Hough’s braveness to wear a fully sheer skirt I can’t help but admit I find the dress nicer from far away than it is up close, sorry!!!  I really wanted to like this immensely when I first saw the photos but unfortunately the more I look at the dress the more I’m not so keen on it.

Belle Dress Hire again has some beautiful dresses which come with mesh detailing available to hire in sizes 6 and also 8 …

Ghostly hues hit the Emmys red carpet …

It’s that time of year again when my SKY planner goes beserk recording all programmes relating to the Emmy Awards (mostly on channel E!).  I can’t help myself, I’m always just so curious to see what women who have the money to buy and wear any dress in the whole wide world finally decide to pick.

This year I was both disappointed and in awe at some of the styles.  It seems pale colours were making a big impact on the red carpet.  I am very undecided about this trend as I believe these very pale tones are extremely hard to wear unless you have a golden/tan complexion OR completely unblemished perfect ivory skin.  Everyone from Mad Men’s January Jones to Julie Bowen from Modern Family to DWTS Julianne Hough, these female celebrities donned the palest of pinks, nudes and various shades of white at this year’s big night for TV!

I absolutely detest the dress on January Jones for so many reasons!  I feel the bustline looks very awkward and cuts her bust off in a really weird place that actually makes the dress look uncomfortable to wear! Plus this girl is tiny so why have a dress that makes her look like she has pockets of flab under each arm??  I also don’t like the fabric that Givenchy has used as it reminds me of crochet squares my mum used to make and that panel along the bottom of the dress is horrendous.  Apparently, this dress was specially made for January??  And as she told a reporter at the event and I quote .. “They made this for me so I had to pick it.”  To be honest, if I had been January I would have thanked  Givenchy for the thought but politely declined the offer of this dress.

Just awful.

It’s a different story when we look at Julie Bowen!

Ok, the dress is completely over the top and some might say very 90’s in shape and style.  God help me, I don’t know what it is exactly but I really LOVE this.  It’s not my usual cup of tea at all but I think she looks so happy and confident in the dress that I’m looking at the style in a completely different way.

Unlike January, this bustline is perfect!  It’s flattering, delicate and so very pretty.  I love the choice of fabric and the blush/pale pink is just so girlie but the addition of the layered ruffles at the bottom help to remind us that this is definitely a grown ups dress!

Belle Dress Hire has some really beautiful pale coloured dresses available at the moment in sizes 6, 8 and 10 …

Leather Everywhere You Look!

It’s official, leather is all over the red carpet at the moment!  Notoriously a fabric kept for biker jackets and long trench coats, this season seems to favour leather dresses in all colours.

You should check out Blake Lively at Milan Fashion Week in an AMAZING, mustard yellow leather dress to the knee.

The addition of the belt gives the dress more shape whilst defining the waist and keeps the style more fashionable.  Leather as we all know, can look very “hard” when worn by a lady so Blake overcomes this beautifully by keeping her hair soft and not overly styled along with a restrained use of accessories.  I absolutely LOVE the red lip with this mustard colour, note to self!!

Going over to the dark side … Petra Ecclestone and Brooke Burke Charvet have decided to go with black leather dresses, once again, both to the knee which keeps the look less costume and more fashion forward.  I like the choice of a sleeve by Petra and she’s been very clever in that the sleeve stops short of the wrist so it doesn’t look sloppy or again become “catwoman-like.”

Then ……. Rosie Huntington-Whiteley goes one step further and wows in a tight, white PVC dress.

Ok, she’s a amazonian supermodel which means she looks good in everything, but I have to give her credit in this ensemble.

If you put white, tight and PVC all into the one sentence, you would immediately think, trailer park trash or possibly a porn role or even a Miley Cyrus stage costume BUT Rosie seems to be able to make this style uber sexy and classy.  She’s kept the overall look very sleek and groomed plus the addition of the pointed shoe is just genius.

Would YOU wear this dress??

From the back, the dress actually looks very regal and is offset beautifully by Selita Ebanks gorgeous skin tone.  Therefore, you will be totally amazed when you see the front view … Seriously!!!!  I just want to quickly quote someone standing beside me looking at a pic of this dress right now, “Why not just wear a sign look at me!”  How can this possibly have ever been considered as a fashionable choice of evening wear by Selita or her stylist?  This looks so tacky.  It also looks like she can’t move very well and let’s be honest if she were to turn too quickly to the right, she’d be exposing parts of her body that are supposed to be kept discrete!

I know sheer panels are a BIG trend this season and we have already seen Gwyneth Paltrow in a very revealing similar style of dress before which divided the critics.

However, this white dress worn by Selita takes sheer fabric to a whole new level which to be frank just looks cheap.  She also is wearing far too much make up which is making her look really harsh in the face.  All in all this look bombs and the “Legendary Phoenix” from Kanye West’s film, Runaway unfortunately is “legendary” in this get up BUT for ALL the wrong reasons!

Fully Booked at Belle Dress Hire!

I am really enjoying all of the recent weeks of appointments I have had with such lovely young ladies attending their school formals.  During the past fortnight, I have been visited by girls from schools such as Glenola Bangor, St Louise’s Belfast, Friends Lisburn, Ballyclare High and as far a field as Coleraine and Newry.

It must be so exciting for you girls to try out an array of full length evening gowns for the very first time!  Red seems to be as popular as always this year as well as white.  I have also noticed that a love for embellished, glitzy dresses has increased which is lovely to see, as your first school formal will always be the one that you remember!  So why not go all out ….

As the next three months are a prime time for school formals, if you have an awards ceremony, black tie wedding or Christmas event coming up, I would suggest that you make an appointment with Belle Dress Hire well in advance so you won’t be disappointed if an appointment slot isn’t available.  Unfortunately, Belle Dress Hire operates on an appointment only basis and it’s a first come first served process!

It’s all about the back!!!

Girls get your spot remover creams and loofah’s at the ready!  Even though we are approaching autumn, it’s official, you need to get your back out!

Naked skin from behind was everywhere at the TV Choice Awards which were held in London’s Dorchester Hotel.

Although, do yourself a favour and DO NOT mimic Louise Thompson, from Made in Chelsea and invest in a decent spray tan!!

When you think about it, this is a really clever way of baring some skin without flashing your boobs or indeed abit of leg!

Also, it’s classy and indeed brilliant because whilst our wardrobe in mid September begins to accommodate trousers, jumpers, leather boots, scarves and tights ….. we can still be sexy on a night out simply by showing a little skin on our back!

Easily covered by a coat, short jacket or even a pashmina on the way into a bar or nightclub when it gets really cold, this is the perfect solution to keeping stylish and sexy over the next few weeks as the temperature dips.

I have been lucky enough to attend a black tie event at The Dorchester Hotel before and I have to say it’s an absolutely stunning red carpet venue.  If you have a special event coming up soon in Bangor, Belfast, Lisburn or elsewhere in Northern Ireland, check out a few of these, as Sharon Osbourne would say “fabulous” backless dresses available at Belle Dress Hire …

Monochrome Madness!!!

Not only was black and white all over the catwalks of NY Fashion Week BUT it seems this combination was equally as popular off the runway as well …

Effortlessly chic, the pairing of white with black has always been associated with elegance and class.  Just think Coco Chanel!  I love the fact that you can put these two colours together or wear separately from top to toe aka Lady Gaga and Olivia Wilde, in either a casual or very groomed style. This trend which is straight off the runways of New York is so easy to translate into everyday fashion ladies!! Here is a sneak peak at just a few Belle Dress Hire’s beautiful selection of black and white or single block colour dresses available for hire!  Perfect for this season at your next special event ..

Belle Does Short!!!

I am always trying to keep the dresses available at Belle Dress Hire current and on trend as much as possible so I am pleased to announce that a few shorter length styles are now available to hire!  Normally, I always recommend that full length dresses are worn to black tie events, but if you did fancy showing abit of leg to your next event, check out these gorgeous styles which would be excellent for parties or weddings …

Valencia Red Size 8LISA COULTER SHORT
This is a fantastic little party dress with a boned, beaded, corseted top and fuller, tulle skirt. The colour is a rich valencia red with a sheen to it.  Available to hire in a size 8.

Then we go even shorter with this fabulous, gold, sequin cocktail dress.  The shape is very flattering but you need to be very tiny to wear this little size 6 number!  The dress is very well boned and the sequin fabric is heavy and of an excellent quality so it sits on the body extremely well.

Gold Short Cocktail

If you perhaps fancied something a tad longer in length to the knee in a really pretty style, just look at this gorgeous blossom pink, strapless dress.  I have tried this style on myself and would love to be invited somewhere to wear it!!  It’s so so very pretty!  Again, this dress is very flattering as it pulls in at the waist and then flares out into a fuller, net lined skirt to just above the knee.  This style would look fab at a wedding or an outdoor daytime event.  This is currently available to hire at Belle Dress Hire in a size 8/10.
